5 Reasons to Light Up Your Dock

Nov 11, 2022

Owning a dock property can be one of the best experiences since it provides a great entertainment area and storage for your boat and fish. Additionally, a dock can improve the value of your waterfront property and offer convenience.

Despite the numerous advantages, dock ownership comes with several responsibilities, including lighting your property. This article highlights five reasons to light you're your dock.

1. Direct Nighttime Traffic

You need sufficient lighting when returning your boats at night to avoid knocking on the boat dock. Boat dock lights can also help direct other boats in the water at night and avoid costly accidents.

To make your dock more visible, consider using colored lighting. For instance, you can install green lights at the entrance of your dock and red lights at the exit. If you can't access colored lights, use a cluster of lights on one side to increase visibility.

2. Keep your Dock Clean

Dock lights play a crucial role when it comes to maintaining the cleanliness of your dock. There are two major ways dock lights can help you maintain the cleanliness of your dock.

First, these lights deter birds from entering your dock. If birds enter your dock, they may leave droppings which can be difficult to clean. Besides deterring birds, dock lights illuminate a large area, allowing you to reach the furthest and darkest places when cleaning.

3. Catch More Fish

Fish are normally attracted to light. Therefore, consider lighting up your dock if you want to catch more fish. The light will first attract small fish, which you can use as bait to attract larger fish.

For this method to become more effective, use green or blue lights since these light colors travel further. This way, you can catch even the fish in deep water.

Other than attracting fish, green light also encourages zooplankton to grow in water. Since fish like feeding on zooplankton, they'll come near your dock to feed, and you can catch them in the process.

Install the lights under the dock if you want to attract more fish. The best lights to install under your dock are luminous underwater LED lights since they're cost-effective and can serve you for a long time.

4. Enhance Security

You can use your boat dock to store valuable items such as water sports gear, lifejackets, and entertainment equipment to make your trip more fun. As a result, your dock can become a target for thieves. Losing such items can lead to financial loss since you need to replace them. The best way to discourage thieves from stealing items in your dock is by lighting up your dock.

Although you want to illuminate the area properly, avoid using lighting fixtures that produce too much light since it may be a nuisance to the neighbors and other boaters. Warehouse dock lights are an excellent choice since they provide the ideal amount of lighting to scare away thieves without causing any disturbance.

5. Enhance Aesthetics

Dock lighting has a significant impact on the aesthetic appeal of your dock. The lights can help highlight your dock's elegant design and architectural details, making it more attractive, especially at night. This makes your dock the ideal place to unwind after a long day.

To make your space look more attractive, use solar lights since they fit perfectly, and you won't need wires. Having excess lighting wires on your dock can reduce its attractiveness. Solar lights also help save on energy costs and are environmentally friendly. Additionally, solar dock lights don't over-illuminate your dock.

Dock lights are essential, whether it's for security or aesthetic reasons. If you are looking for more information on reasons to light your dock, contact Edgewater Marine Construction, Inc.
